Brook LopezThanks to one heck of a performance during the most recent NCAA tournament, those on the East Coast became aware of a guy named Brook Lopez, and the things he could do with the basketball in the low post.  In a first round that will likely be littered with big men, it wouldn’t shock many if Lopez was the first center to come off of the board.  If not, he will not be too far behind fellow West-coaster, Kevin Love.

Current mock drafts have Lopez falling anywhere from third overall to Minnesota to possibly ninth overall to Charlotte.  If he falls anywhere past nine, it would be a steal for any team selecting towards the back end of the lottery.  But what would Lopez bring to the table in terms of fantasy production?

Flash in retro uniThe next couple of games in our tourney are going up a bit early due to me having Father’s Day commitments tomorrow. To all the dads and families out there, have a wonderful day. Just finished watching Tiger Woods wrap up his third round…great stuff. Good luck tomorrow, Tiger.

The Celtics meeting the Lakers again in the Finals was supposed to wax nostalgia non-stop, but the ball has been pretty flat and ugly. With the Lakers blowing that huge lead in Game 4, the Celtics have a chance to clinch the series. The Lakers’ homecourt has been taken away before; Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls won three straight at the Forum to win their first championship back in 1991. I have heard the notion that MJ would never have let his team blow that lead in the Finals, and I agree. The Kobe to MJ comparisons will be cooled for a while. Here’s hoping the Lakers regroup and extend the series.

Searched the archives and found a picture of Dwyane Wade in an old Miami Heat uniform. Flash is in action this week.

HP HDX Dragon giveaway

Alright, we’ve hyped it for over a month - the contest was our second biggest giveaway in the history of Gear Live. The rules were simple - interact with Gear Live and our community, and don’t spam. You earn points for different actions you take on the site, and the person with the most points at the end of the contest would be declared the winner, as long as they didn’t resort to spamming to get there.

We saw a lot of new activity across the board. Comments, forum posts, gallery comments, new members, and the list goes on…but there could only be one winner. Do note, if you didn’t win, we have another contest starting next week where we will be giving away our customized Gear Live as the grand prize, with a couple of runner up prizes as well.

Okay, we’ve waiting long enough. The winner of the HDX Dragon computer package is…

KG vs. TDGiven a choice, would you choose to have the career of Kevin Garnett or that of Tim Duncan? TD is hailed as one of the best players ever, maybe top ten all-time. He has four rings and is usually a shoo-in for first team All-NBA. KG has the better street cred, but has not had as much team success as Duncan over the span of their careers. KG and his Celtics took Game 1 of this year’s Finals, and the countdown is on until Game 2 tips off. While we wait, we can ponder these two giants in the game going up against each other this week in our hypothetical tourney.

Congratulations to the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers for making the NBA Finals! It’s a dream match-up that waxes nostalgia for those that discovered the league during the 1980s like myself. Kudos to the NBA schedule makers this year; up until now there was at least one playoff game on almost every night. The hype gets to build for another few days, which leaves everyone lots of time to make their Finals prediction.

Meanwhile, let’s see how I see this past week’s two-on-two match-ups. Then the last two games of the first round are presented.

Rip vs. Agent ZeroSorry the posts have been a bit slow over the past couple of weeks. I’m back in the game now. Thanks to Sarge for keeping things going a bit. DescriptionI come to you not even 48 hours after my beloved Cavs have been bounced from the playoffs.  Paul Pierce, well played.  Cleveland supporting cast, I wish I could stay the same. There’s a reason that LeBron James is the only Cavalier in this tournament.  All I have to say is that Danny Ferry better get to work.

With that said, last week brought us a showcase of guard talent.  This week takes a slightly different twist, bringing us a truckload of big men.  While two of them are pictured to the right, there are a few more that will deserve some consideration.

Let’s cut to the chase and get on with this week’s match-ups.
